MANY MONTHS IN THE MAKING
We’ve been working on this album with Abaki Simba for many months, and it feels good to finally see it all come together. This last week before the launch has been a challenge and a realization that finishing recording an album is just a punctuation mark in a very long process. For starters we have the soft launch – an invited guest list for a listening – and a live show at The Alchemist Bar. Then it’s a wait with (much form filling to do) until the 24th when we have the official launch through Africori. Then the real work of promotion and marketing starts.
The album is called Kazi, which means work in Swahili, and for the number of people who have put much work into this thing – that’s pretty apt!
“Striving against the odds”
The Album ‘KAZI’ is mixture of genres, from reggae and hip hop to folk and afro-fusion. The album was written from the basis of percussion and features vocalists Khoisan, Labdi and Teto Totuma.
The message of the album is that of working hard for oneself and striving hard to succeed against the odds. Lets hope the album does that for both ADA and Abaki Simba.
