KAZI REMIX CONTEST EXTENDED

To all of our producers and remixers, we have extended the deadline for our KAZI remix contest. Maybe it’s because TIA (this is Africa) and deadlines are a moveable feast or because we’ve also been super busy at ADA in these last weeks. Either way we’ve extended the contest to 31st October, so no excuse for those who’ve already downloaded the stems to put the finishing touches to their remixes and send them in.

BACKYARD BASS

So we’ve had a busy last few weeks with 2 big #backyardbass nights, finally we are seeing a crowd who truly appreciate the underground bassy vibe we are delivering. We’re also pleased to hear competition for slots for performers at #BackyardBass is hotting up – in the end the audience will decide but feel free to send us suggestions of who you’d like to see at a #backyardBass event on our contact form. Big thanks to the Hutchery crew for finally nailing the live stream in our dark and dusty backyard – here’s some of the livestream from the event with CERVO and CONTOURS.

SOUND SYSTEM NEWS

Funktion1 and Umojah Sound Systems have been on the road to various events, including Nyege Nyege Festival in Jinja, Uganda. There was a tricky moment when it looked like the van was too small to take the ‘doubled in size’ Umojah system, but many brains and hands on the job and all went well. The ADA crew proved without a shadow of doubt that they can still deliver amazing sound even with lots of rain and no sleep.

ADA RECORDS

You can expect a busy last quarter 2017 as we are putting the finishing touches to a number of new releases coming out on ADA Records. Artists include Box of Beats, Labdi, Yellow Light Machine and Asili Dub. Quite an eclectic mix of styles from all, but at ADA we are not about the obvious and Midi Minds Kenya – our Producer partners seem to know no boundaries on the production they are bringing to the table.

STUDIO EVENTS

We recently hosted the Femme Electronic production workshop, a Santuri led project to upskill female DJ’s and Producers in the region. The excellent and highly informative workshop sessions were run by Suraj and Dylan of Midi Minds Kenya. DJ’s Ninja and Zipporah also visited the workshop to give a hands on session about the world of DJ’ing for women.

IN THE HOUSE

This last month we’ve been lucky to have several international visitors in the studio, Umoja (NL) Cervo (UK) Contours (UK) and Zipporah (Stamp the Wax) and as usual there’s always something interesting cooking with every visit. Yesterday it was an ‘as live’ recording of Nairobi artists for Worldwide FM, today it’s Franck Biyong with Cervo, Contours and our own Matt working on a top secret Afro Disco project – guess we shouldn’t have mentioned that!
